CAUSES OF BODY ODOUR

When the body gives off an odor that people find offensive, it is known as body odour and this occurs when bacteria that live on the skin break down sweat into acids. According to research,  sweat is actually odourless, it is the bacteria that live and grow under your arms that causes body odor.

Some people naturally have more bacteria under their arms and therefore have a harder time controlling odor. There are also certain people prone to body odor and it might become a fixed issue if steps are not taken in time to fix this. Below are some causes of body odor:

Sugar

If you are the type that takes too much of sugary things, it might cause body odor. This happens when eating too many sugary snacks causes the body to overproduce yeast, which turns the sugars into alcohol, and this contributes to odor. It is always advisable to reduce the sugar content being taken to avoid cases such as body odor.

Synthetic clothing

Synthetic clothing keeps sweat locked in because there is no way for them to go out. This leads to sweat staying on the body surface, this promotes the growth of bacteria which can cause body odor if the body is not taken care of adequately.

Spicy food

Foods that contain ingredients such as garlic, curry and some other spices release sulfur-containing gasses which the body breaks down and when it comes out in the pores, it may cause the lingering smell.

Alcohol

A constant intake of alcohol can cause body odor. Alcohol when taken, comes out through the pores, however, when the liver is damaged,  it metabolizes less of the alcohol, leaving more to come out through your body odor.

Not washing your brassiere

When you repeat the same bra, it causes body odor. According to medical research, a bra’s fabric touches beneath your arms, across your back and between your breasts and chest, all areas prone to sweat, and to that the fact that bras are often made of fabrics that don’t take in away moisture.

“The moisture can make bacteria and fungus overgrow,” that trapped sweat and moisture cause bad odor and rashes. The most important thing is to watch what is eaten and ensure you are neat always.
