GHANA ARMED FORCES DEMAND PROOF OF “BUTCHERED” SOLDIER IN TAKORADI
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) says it has searched to no avail for records of a military officer lynched in Takoradi, Western Region.
There was a publication in the Friday, May 24 edition of The Chronicle that the officer was “butchered” to death by wee smokers.
“Our checks from all our units within 2 Garrison (Sekondi-Takoradi) indicate that no such incident has taken place,” a statement issued.
“Checks with local hospitals and the Military Hospital have also yielded no such record,” the statement signed by Colonel Emmanuel Aggrey-Quarshie, the Director of GAF’s Public Relations, said.
It said even if such an incident happened the victim cannot be a member of the Forces at 2 Garrison.
“In this regard, GAF is calling on The Chronicle newspaper to offer proof of the allegation and notify any military installation or the civil police for necessary action.”
It cautioned media houses to be circumspect in reportage on military issues.
