Ghana’s Shafiu Mumuni sets new record at WAFU

Ashantigold Skipper, Shafiu Mumuni, has become the first player to score a hat-trick in the WAFU Nations Cup since its inaugural edition.

The goal poacher who is popularly known as ‘Swedru Ronaldo’ for his eye for goal and how dangerous he is in front of the goal is having a tournament of his life.

Shafiu Mumuni scored all three goals for Black Stars B in their 3-1 triumph over Cote D’Ivoire in the semi-finals to book a place in the finals and also making him the first-ever player to do so.

This is the third hat-trick the 24-year-old has scored so far this year and will hope to add more before the year ends.

The Black Stars B captain got his first hat-trick in the Normalization Special Competition where he scored three in his sides 4-1 win over Aduana Stars back in May.

His second came four months later as his three goals guided Ashantigold to a 4-0 win on aggregate over Akonangui in the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round.

Shafiu is in a good position to win the golden boot after scoring four goals in three games in the ongoing WAFU tournament in Senegal.
